Qi Gong
For self-healing and general well-being, Shiatzu! runs Qi Gong classes for individuals or small groups following 18 Stance Tai Ji Qi Gong form.
Qi Gong (pronounced Chi Kung) is a traditional exercise form based on the idea of increasing health and building a strong constitution by encouraging the flow and replenishment of Qi in the body. There are many forms of Qi Gong but the basic idea is that a series of movements are repeated in time with the breath so that it becomes like a standing or moving meditation. This encourages free and easy movement of the blood and energy in the body at the same time as clearing the mind and bringing vital oxygen to all the cells.
Over time you will become more relaxed, calm and bodily aware which will enable you to respond to the challenges of life in a more balanced and effective way. General physical health benefits include improving posture and therefore relieving back pain and many other muscular aches and pains as well as improving digestive function.
Traditionally to train in martial arts programs, healing arts or even painting and caligraphy in China, you would be expected to do Qi Gong for many years to develop strong Qi because it is the basis of all things.
