What is Energy?
Qi (Chinese), Ki (Japanese) or Prana (Indian) is generally translated into the English Language as Energy or Life Force. In the East, the concept is accepted as part of an innate understanding of the world that we live in and are part of. In the West we tend to see it as a less tangible, almost magical concept that only some people have access to. This is not the case.
Qi in the body is what makes us who we are. We all have Qi and different forms of it are in every part of our being. The existence of Qi in every organ, in every system of the body, is what keeps it working and alive. When we become stressed or injured, or fall victim to poisons, bacteria or parasites, then the energy or Qi becomes blocked, erratic or weakened.
According to the traditional levels of healing, the things we can do to protect and heal ourselves from within are meditation, exercise (e.g. Qi Gong, T'ai Ji or Yoga) and partaking of a good balanced diet. If we do not practice these things or need more help, then we can go to another and receive herbal concoctions and massage. Then we might consider acupuncture and the last resort would be surgery which is considered intrusive and as likely to cause problems as heal them.
